According to IDC, over 14.3 million smart handheld devices will be shipped worldwide in 2001. By 2004, that number will more than triple to 45.4 million worldwide shipments. Recognized with web site awards from Forbes, Entrepreneur Magazine and Newsweek, Handango has become the leading resource for software, hardware and wireless services. On average, fifteen new software applications are introduced daily on Handango's Web site to a catalog that already features over 10,000 software titles. Laura Rippy was named Chief Executive Officer of Handango in November 1999 with a charter to broaden Handango's leadership in the handheld software market.
Ms. Rippy has extensive experience in software technology, product development and marketing, including the management of several high-performing software and Web development efforts. Prior to joining Handango, Ms. Rippy worked at Microsoft for 6 years where she held a series of marketing and executive positions. While there, she founded MSN HomeAdvisor and co-founded MSN Sidewalk, two award-winning e-commerce sites. As general manager for MSN HomeAdvisor, Ms. Rippy created the business plan, convinced Microsoft executives to fund the business, hired and led the product development team, and managed all aspects of partnerships and marketing. For MSN Sidewalk, she drove the original business plan, customer targeting and product development priorities. Ms. Rippy also led the launch of software products in the education category for Microsoft, with special focus on retail and direct marketing channels. Most recently, for Microsoft's Dallas office, Ms. Rippy led strategic e-commerce solutions sales for Microsoft's enterprise customers.
Ms. Rippy holds a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School and a bachelor of arts degree in government from Dartmouth College.
